Of course not. The question isn't even worth considering. What a ridiculous idea. I'm looking forward to not running into the people who'll not buy into GW2 over this.

I can't see them creating minipets (Asura) in "GW1" that are "GW2" creatures but could never make it to "GW2".

1.) You can still have a life and play Guild Wars. However, for people with lives it's not that easy to actually play more than one game. Leveling up doesn't take so much time because there's a lot of tricks. You figure how to market and make a major amount of gold in a short amount of time w/o having to cheat/ebay your way. It's really about time. If I had no life or if my career was working with video games, I would probably consider playing GW (and Fast Faction Farming for some Nazi-guild to help keep a pointless town such as House Zu Helzer) GW2 (if they decide to make it "new" *rolls eyes*), and WOW all at once, but I only have time for just one. And it's no secret that WOW is the game for the player with no life. I have friends who are on that game like Whitney Houston on Crack, Bobby on Whitney's crack and crack on Crack, Snapple, Pop.
Atleast with prophecies, factions and Nightfall they are combined. I can either continue developing a character (I'm more of a pve type) that doesn't take so much time or make a new one which still wont take soo much time cause you can pretty much have characters on your account shares a lot of the goods found on their journeys which takes me to......
2.) Anet will lose a lot of good customers if they decide to not allow players to crossover their characters with everything they worked so hard on, along some of the time they took to bring it up. Forget these minors ages 18 and under who live under their parents roof so they would have all the time to play all those games, but notice GW has a massively huge demograph of Adult consumers: Lawyers, business guys, single moms and dads, coming in Gameshop and such. I mean they come in with the time they can afford for atleast one game. I'm not a lawyer, mom or dad, but my career and the big city where the high rent is no joke fortuntaley gives some time, not a lot for one game. And that's Guild Wars. Leveling to 20 no problem, but having to start from scratch w/o gettng a compensation for the time I put in before, I will say it again..screw that! They'll just look at GW2, say they got no time for this and just go back to GW1 until they are finally done to put their love for the game at rest. LOL. So for Anet to only cater to that small voted percentage would be a marketing-suicide. Who cares if those players are gonna rant, "Forget this, I'm gonna play Wow!" As if they don't do that now. LOL.
3.) If Anet wishes to make GW2 take place in the future, so be it. (God just to imagine another Star Wars/Trekkie-rivalry to make war at the conventions. LOL) If they will to create a lil Time machine to cross over characters yay! If not screw it! If you wish to really just start over with something new, god just make a new character like you could originally or just delete your character accounts for the sake of starting "fresh." ^^. However, if Anet relieves players to do the crossovers, atleast expand the storage and inventory (for especially armor and weapons) since Anet LOOOOOOOOVES to make new armor sets and weapons and wants their lovely customers to try them all on.

Arenanet is not dumb. They know that they'll lose a large player base - only if they release Guild Wars 2 tomarrow. Try in a few years, when they'll actually consider making it, and by that time you'll have gotten so bored with Guild Wars that you'll actually be glad to "start over again" (you won't be starting over again because it's a new game, of course).

Yes... we should be allowed to import our older toons... Why you ask its a "brand new game" well lets debate about this for a moment... what makes it brand new?.... Will there be no monks... no rits no warriors no rangers ect in it? Ok so there is a new storyline and some kewl new features.... ahem.... sounds like factions and nightfall to me. Restarting titles for ha makes total sense to me... The "rank" system is flawed and needs to be restarted in a way that makes sense this I can understand....
But simply put if anet doesnt make an offical yes or no there is a guild wars 2 comeing and yes or no about porting old toons over. This almost 7k hr old player will NOT be buying even the next chapter... Not to mention this gw's2 bs. Yes... I spend alot of time playing guild wars I have time invested into developing my characters hell my monk is almost 3k hrs old alone in fissure armor and with every weapon I want and every skill I want and that is just one of my 10 characters. Am I attached to them hell yes!! I spent that much time developing them because I was under the assumption that guild wars would continue on for a long time to come.
This news makes me not want to even finish nightfall with my dervish or warrior and continue to develop those characters even more.. Whats the point.... what realy has me worried is my guild for the most part are ALL saying the same thing... Since this rumor came out I have people that havnt been online in days.... THIS RUMOR NEEDS TO BE RESPONDED TO NOW!! True or not anet is already looseing players because of it.... WE NEED OFFICAL WORD NOW!!

Ive spent to much cash/time playing on my fav char, maxing titles PVPing (if fame [Maby not fame just your last emote] doesnt carry over its so FTL).
I enjoy playing my monk (main) i dont think i should be FORCED to recreate it just because i want to play a expansion and get somthin "New" out of it.
If i wanted somthing new i would just not buy Guild Wars 2 i'd just go play Eve or somthing else because id rather play somthong new than have to regrind cash/fame/titles/unlocks.

You know, at first I thought the same thing. But after considering this thing with the HoH for instance, its not so dumb anymore. Belthy and the other gods may need the help of the old heroes so... whatever sparks youre mind.
Whichever the case will be, I will just make the same character I have in GW in GW2.

Quote from Wikipedia
Quote:
Each campaign is independent of the others, and features a new co-operative storyline, new professions and skills, and new campaign-specific competitive arenas. A player who chooses not to purchase a campaign may still interact with those who do, which includes trading with them for items specific to the campaigns they haven't purchased. Players who own two campaigns may additionally transport their characters freely from one campaign to the other.

That right there, is the sole reason of their successful BUSINESS MODEL. Why would you grow a Christmas tree, and cut it down for the holidays at 2 feet? This game has NOT BEEN FULLY EXPLORED. A new graphics engine I agree would be difficult to implement through stream technology, yet that does not mean our time invested should suffer. If Pokemon can do it, so can ANet. Get this through your head that poll up there, if more PvE'ers saw it they would vote yes to transfer. Over 80% of the gaming community I would say is PvE. If this poll popped up when you signed on guildwars you would have wished you sat on a toilet.

To me it is self-evident that a new game implies a fresh start. At most, they could allow people to transfer their characters' name and appearance, but I doubt they'll do even that. If skills and equipment are going to work the same in GW2, there isn't much point to it being a new game.
Having said that, I really hope Anet continues to support GW1. Once they stop supporting it, I'll start looking for a new game - it might well be GW2, but it might not.

I have no problem with transfering a character to one campaign to another. If Guild Wars 2 becomes just another campaign upgrade then, wow, I guess their game *will* go in the toilet.

Which is why they won't release Guild Wars 2 for a large number of years, so when you do explore it completely you will not care. That is my point.

So because of lore, you get all of your skills unlocked, max level, max armor...All in a completely different game/engine/story/time.

I think the biggest problem with importing characters is that you will have to also import the mechanics of the old game. Let's face it, GW1 is a good game, but it is not a perfect game. There are many flaws with it.
A new game with no imports will allow for a complete redesign, perhaps even with the mechanics of the whole game. If imports are allowed, the game will be locked down into the old state to make all the skills and items compatible.
I think it would be a fatal flaw to allow imports. Yeah, people worked hard on their current characters, but how long do you think people will play if GW2 is exactly the same as GW1 with a new graphics shell? By the time GW2 actually comes, out GW1 will probably be about 4 years old already, I don't think people would stick to the same game for 4 more years.

Great argument. Actually screw the sarcasm. That is a such a poor response that I'm not even going to bother to reason and argue against it.
Moving on.
Regardless i will probably play GW2 if and when it comes out. But on the subject of characters transfers, if there is such a thing, all money, items, armour should be lost in the transition. A character transition should only include the base character(name and appearance only) (maybe we can get that hair stylist :-p). But having character transitions requires that GW and GW2 be able to "talk" to each other to a certain extent. Since its highly unlikely that GW2 would even use the GW1 engine, then there would have to be a way to link the accounts between the games or keep the old account but upgrade it to be compatible with GW2.
However, there really is no reason to not allow for a base character to cross over. Lore wise Anet can easily come up with a way to time warp your character. I mean this is coming from a fantasy game with teleports that warp you across the map and a completely different realm where you can interact with spirits and gods. Your character could fall into the Mists losing all its tangible items and wake up 100 years later naked for all i care.
But taking all the armour, money, items and stuff just doesnt fit with a new game thats supposed to take place 100 years later.
As for titles, i won't be that hurt to see them go with the transition to GW2. I can always go back and play GW1 and show off what titles i own. The only titles that should be considered porting would maybe be the pvp titles, unless they decided to revamp the pvp. Then they shouldn't import any titles.
In short, if GW2 is made, they should include just base character swaps. Its a new game, but it shouldn't completely devoid people of EVERYTHING from GW1. At least let people keep their old names and appearance. Sure i could recreate the character, but it won't feel the same.

Keep it in speculation and opinions, please.
If flames start to grow this whole thread will go down in a blaze like wooden statues at a burning man festival.
My opinion has already been said in previous posts and by my vote in this poll.
My speculation on this matter, based on other games models and examples, is that GW2 will keep everything separate. I plan to play the beta weekends to see if I like it.
To base off of whether or not I will play GW2, whenever it gets released, on speculation of if I could take a char across at all or not is kinda silly. To call the doom of ANET based on the fear of not being able to bring your char into GW2 is just preposterous.
